Aug. 8, 2016 – Freddie Johnson – Qualities of a Leader

Brother Freddie Johnson delivered the message on August 8, 2016. He taught on the qualities of a leader. Freddie opened by reading Deuteronomy 28:13 – If you listen to these commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today, and if you carefully obey them, the LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always be on top and never at the bottom. (NLT). Freddie stressed to the group that as Men of Steel and more importantly as Men of God we are called to be leaders, to be the head and not the tail. Freddie then shared about a book he read recently on leadership. “There are many qualities of a leader,” he said, “and many appeared in the book, but there were 3 that really stood out to me…character, charisma, and being faithful.”

Freddie explained that character is a moral and ethical quality of integrity. It is what we have on the inside that comes out and is illustrated in our actions. Nobody will follow you if you are wishy washy, if you are all talk but no follow through. Men with strong character display it in their works. Charisma is the divinely conferred gift to influence people and draw them towards you. Charisma is not about manipulation but about allowing the Holy Spirit inside of you to come out and be on display in the way you live. “People are drawn to the Spirit inside of you, but you won’t draw anybody to Christ while straddling the fence,” Brother Johnson taught. Finally he taught that it comes down to being faithful.  You cannot be faithful unless you have faith. People will not follow a leader unless they see the leaders willingness to be faithful, it comes through in their character and their charisma.

“There are many aspects of being a good leader,” Johnson taught, “but these 3 really stand out to me.”
