Sin and Anxiety

Men of Steel 8-4-25
Brother Jim Pike led the men this evening in a word on how different kinds of sin can lead to stress and anxiety. Causes such as sinful living, worrying about uncertainty, careless living, and seeking the easy path in life can distract your attention from God and thereby discourage and rob us of our faith and joy. Inversely, when we give our cares over to the Lord and live by His instructions, we can find relief from the stress and anxiety caused by sin.

Genesis 3:7-10
7. At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.
8. When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees. 9. Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
10. He replied, “I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.”
James 1:2-3
2. Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
Philippians 4:4-10
4. Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! 5. Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.
6. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
8. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
10. How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me.
Matthew 6:34
"So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today."
