Remorse vs Regret

Remorse vs Regret

Men of Steel 7-28-25

Pastor Greg led the men this evening in a message on the nature of remorse compared to regret and how remorse can lead to repentance which can mend broken situations and bring both us closer to Christ as well as other people. In addition to scriptures, Greg referenced a quote from CS Lewis on the nature of repentance as a denial of self interest.

“Now repentance is no fun at all. It is something much harder than merely eating humble pie. It means unlearning all the self-conceit and self-will that we have been training ourselves into for thousands of years.”

  • CS Lewis, Mere Christianity (from chapter The Perfect Penitent)
II Corinthians 7:10
For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.

Acts 3:19
Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.
